Sunset or dusk photo taken May 9, 2007 at Crater Lake, Oregon. The Pink snow is a result of the reflection of the pink from the clouds and the sky and the pink from the setting sun on the snow. The pink was not added via any post processing. The color is as recorded on Fujichrome Velvia 50.
Thanks very much for the very kind words. I had originally set up my larger Toho Shimo FC-45X to take photos from this vantage point prior to the coloration of the photo. In the distance it looked like it was raining on the far side of Crater Lake and I decided to take down the camera rather than get soaking wet. Just after I finished packing the camera and tripod the lighting changed to what is recorded here. I set up my smaller Mamiya 7II with the 65mm lens on the tripod and took 5 images. Lightning strikes were seen in the distance and the light failed after the 5 images had been captured. I packed up the camera after these images were taken and watched the lightning from the safety of the car around the lake for some time. The next morning I had to to start my return home back to Pennsylvania unexpectedly, cutting my 3 week trip short after speaking to my father and learning that my Uncle had just passed away. Rich
Very sorry to hear of your uncle in Pa...very happy to see the results of having a back up plan in case the "weather gods" decide to trick us out of a great capture...How many times have we put up the gear just for the light to change to what we wished for in the first place.. ?
Thanks very much for the very kind words. The image has been well received in the large size in the "flesh" at Art Shows. The lighting was unusual and Crater Lake was not the characteristic deep blue.
