In The Meadow

This meadow holds a wealth of possibilities for photogrpahs in all seasons and nearly all times of day. I have a growing number of images taken here and expect many more will come. It's easy to get to, totally 'public', and a joy to traverse even with a 4x5 rig on my shoulder. The downside? Deer ticks...ugh!!

I've always liked the light touch of your printing, Jovo. Really beautiful.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I've sprayed my nylon hiking pants with deet, but the agressive little buggers fairly leap above it. I once found a tick burrowed into my thigh. My wife found our tick removal tool and got it out completely followed by a week of amoxycillin (sp?). I survived... I think. (For those of you who are not familiar with deer ticks, they are the principal carriers of lyme disease, which can be fatal vis a vis complications that can arise. A colleague contracted the virus and within a year was dead from such complications. Nasty stuff, that!)

Truly a wonderful location and your picture certainly captured the beauty.

About those ticks, I were there last week, the ticks were really nasty. Remind me to see a doctor to check for Lyme disease (not sure it a tick bite through).

Light and airy summery scenes like these are harmless in the U.K! It looks great in print. Pity you have to go there to give us the picture.

Thank you highpeak, Dave, and Pentaxuser.

Pentaxuser: I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "summery scenes like these are harmless in the U.K.!" I don't think they've ever harmed anyone here either.

great photograph jovo.

I live in Sullivan County and I've always wanted to shoot in Harriman park, I was under the impression that it was off limits for some reason...guess I was wrong!

michael, the limitation is the "no parking" anywhere along park roads. To use the park, you must put your car either in seasonally fee-based lots, or in trail-head free lots of which there are a few. This one is just off Rte 17 at the trail head for the Appalachian Trail's traverse of Harriman Park. The other limitation is that you must officially keep to "established ways" which means you're not supposed to go bushwhacking, but in a meadow like this, I've never even seen a ranger let alone a park policeman on foot looking for those who've left the trail. So...c'mon down and enjoy the place; just be prepared to walk wherever you want to go.
