Very careful 'Composition' of this photo -- the silhouette man is on 'Golden Mean' and the foreground gravestone bottom right balances it very well -- good work !

The tombstone in the foreground...is that really a spam war?

Spanish-American war, fought in a few places - from Cuba to the Phillipines (1898). Apparently this regiment was in the Phillipines. 'Only memorial I know of to this conflict. I have a very unusual - crude straight razor, given me from a friend who's great Uncle was there. The only one similar was considered Chinese & dated back about 300 yrs. This copy was brought back w/ the soldier's duffle bag (or equivalent) & contained sundry items including 45-70 cartridges which would have been the military round for the time period of the SpanAm war. The base of the monument begins 'We the survivors...' I tried to get what phrase at the bottom of the frame, but after 20 min. of seeking camera location, the result was underwhelming.

Hee Hee. A little perusal on it will show the precursor to spam - which was called 'yellow journalism'. W. Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer were beating the war drums as much as CNN or online media could. 'Makes me view present media w/ a dose of skepticism.
