Some quick research answered my question -- yes, that star near the top is a Zimbelstern, the instrument is Opus 80 by Martin Ott -- and looks to be a fantastic instrument. I'd love to hear it (too bad it's 3000 miles away!)
HiHo, WOW, I had no idea these things got this BIG. Simply amazing. A wonderful take on this old beast of sounds. A very clean image. The image almost has perfect symmetry. A slight crop on the right to duplicate, as close as possible, the left area of coverage would work very well IMO. The top and bottom of the image looks right at perfect for as difficult a scene as it was to capture. Well done.
I normally don't comment pictures but this caught my attention when it was sported at the left-upper corner of APUG. Great composition indeed, nice sense of symmetry with a nice "play" of shapes. My compliments! Also, a well-corrected lens as well.
DWT, I sure appreciate your sharing your knowledge of these beasts. 'Had to look up Zimblestern - had no idea it had an acoustic function - thought it was just visual embellishment. They never cease to fascinate me. I wasn't chasing the images then, but when I think of the monster in Grace Cathedral in SF, I kick myself for not shooting rolls of it. Some hot pc from Bach, or Elton John's 'Funeral for a Friend' would likely shake a city block.
Trail, Thank you. After posting, I saw the asymmetry of the windows. Once again, I'm grateful for your thoughts on this & anything I post. On their size - the big pipes at Grace Cathedral are a couple feet in diameter (16 or 20Hz). 'Too low a pitch for the human ear, but your viscera feels it anyway. 7466 pipes!! http://www.gracecathedral.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Cathedral-Organs.pdf
Diapositivo - Thank You. 'Makes my day that one would catch your attention. The organs themselves are hard to pass up, though I rarely am able to get the close detail shots I want. Thank you for posting. I appreciate it.
