Dang. 'Wish I wasn't so numb at what's good & what's not. Sometimes I must look like a cow staring at a new gate. Sure nice when one strikes a chord. I appreciate your kindness, gents.
I think you're on to something powerful there, David. The aspiring young person wanting to write is told by their prof - read. Read quality stuff. For 2 yrs, I've looked at 1x, LFF, the masters (love Karsh) for 10-15 hrs/wk. It has its affect, but feels so slow in the learning. I appreciate your kind help.
You "nailed" separation from the background with this one - really like how the background is not a solid shade, just enough to give the image a sense of movement. Really nice job. (But I would suggest a slight crop on the top edge to reduce the white stripe in the upper right hand corner)
@rmann Not a bad thought, but I might vote instead for burning the stripe in a bit to subdue it, as I think the composition as shown is better as to balance, "rule of thirds" and all that good stuff. However it's done, that image definitely offers HiHo a solid base to work from.
HiHo, like everyone else said this works very well and was photographed and processed nicely. I think the BG blur worked extremely well overall too.
If I were to offer an alternative it would be to crop tighter as the real emphasis is the hood ornament. I know I can be a pain with my perspective at times, but as always, it is merely "optional ideas" on the finished product and nothing bad about the original capture........
My thoughts for another look is to crop down from the top until just below the bright horizontal line coming in at the top right. Then crop ever so slightly on the right to eliminate that very tiny white corner there adjacent to that horizontal line. Then bring a small left crop in to almost where the left fender or left hood roll is in the scene at the lower left of the image. The optional crops eliminate some of the bright items of eye draw especially up top and the other crops help with keeping the aspect ratio similar to the original.........
Hmm. Gulp. My touch-up skills in PS elements leave something to be desired, so the crop options would likely look less ham-fisted. As is usually the case, whether or not my tweaking skills are up to it - the observations seem well founded. 'Can't say enough how much I appreciate the help. Will post a crop in critique to see if its better/worse. My initial thoughts are that if I was able, burning the top strip would keep a better proportion/placement of subject in the frame.
