HiHo, can you do this in color? With the wood, the brass and the tin this must surely scream for color. That said, it is probably true that some of the wood grain and polish of the pipes may be not as evident as in this photo. I am so much against color except when it is just screaming to be done. Your pier was so much better in color in my view, as well some of the other cathedral photos you have done (thinking of red leather covered door with brass doorknob, and the rich wood column).
That's a nice one! I dunno, somebody on these august forums used to have a sig about "avoiding the distraction of color since [some date several decades back]" I like this a lot as is, but I suppose a rich rendition of colors could be the icing on the cake -- you'll just have to put up one of each ...
Hi Michael. 'Just my inexperience. I was flying out the door to get as much time as poss. & the First Press shot were mostly color & I regretted it. In hindsight, there is a good case for the color here. First Press was done w/ Fuji 400. If I shot color again, it would be Portra for a less dramatized rendering. The red door or low light seems to be more forgiving w/ the more saturated films (voice of the amateur here).
In higher res here, I get nice carving marks in the wood, which I like. I'd need a ladder or scaffold to get detail on it.
Peter & DWT. I appreciate your kindness. 'Seems I forever get excited over something & fixate to where my attention is unavailable to other possibilities. I hope to provide the church copies of the images. Perhaps they'll let me reshoot some & I can do a mix of color & more mono. Some of the sanctuary scream for *wide* lens treatment. An SWC or the monster 40mm would be ideal. I've already asked about shooting the iron spiral staircase to the bell tower.
This is a handsome photograph in BW, which by definition can never fail. I certainly meant as a return opportunity, and as a means of capturing the richness of the materials used in the building of this organ. The detail handiwork still demands BW i think, and choosing color over BW would have been another disappointment as in the First Presb. I am also liking much your using the Hassy again. It looks so good.
