Super composition and great exposure. Love the blacks and the whites and the textures. Even before i read the location i was feeling that vertigo coming on. Hope you drop this into the MSA this month.
Gents, sincere thanks for your kind thoughts. It was composed so there would be about the width of another wooden tie extending below that had to be cropped out. I was afraid that having the spike so close to the edge would detract. 'Will likely re-shoot in MF. Sometimes wish the blad was a 6x7.

I noticed new ties every so often, w/ fresh creosote oosing. One shot that didn't work was of piles of the discarded ties, some covered over in moss. There are spikes strewn every so often - always old, so I suspect they all had the needful amount & as the corrosion in this one indicates - it was in place, then replaced w/ new. 'No rust on the top of the rail - it must get some use, though I've never seen any engines or cars on it.
