@CMoore – I've adapted a hybrid work flow. I'm starting with an analogue film negative, then using digital technology to create a larger negative. Then printing that negative in palladium. The palladium process is not sensitive enough to project an image through an enlarger. So if one wants an 8 x 10 inch print, it is necessary to use an 8 x 10 inch negative. Making large negatives from smaller negatives is possible in the darkroom, but very tricky. In his case, I scanned an old negative, did some Photoshop adjustments, and inverted the image to a negative. I then printed that negative image on Pictorico clear film, and used that negative to create a palladium print, using the historical chemicals for that process.
Oh wow.... Palladium.
I took a "Alternative Process" class at my local college, just so i could learn to generate those Pictorico negs, and then make some P/P prints.
I forget the name of the company that sells all of that stuff..... Boston and Sullivan or something like that.?.....They also have a couple of downloads for generating "Curves", Etc etc
I made one digital neg, from a picture from The Internet, and then made a UV Print in the schools UV machine. That was as far as i got.
Anyway..... i know NOTHING about computers, especially Mac, and it was REAL HARD for me, in a class with 15 other students, to try and "master" the computer skills i needed to attempt making a P/P or just P print from one of my 35mm negs. I really needed to have a few hours with the teacher all by myself.
At Any Rate..... i admire your skills. I will just have to settle for remaining a Film Snob
@CMoore I’ve been engaged in photography professionally for over 50 years. Most of that time I was shooting film and printing the images. I worked with 4 x 5 in cameras and 8 x 10. About 20 years ago I started playing around with alt processes. So picked up an 8x10 camera. I used it in a studio environment. After the banking calamities in 08, I gave up my studio and put my 8 x 10 cameraA away. Also the price of 8 x 10 film went up to $10 a sheet since then, so this digital negative technology has worked well for me. And I’ve had some old negatives that were not printable due to either improper exposure, or in some instances actual damage to film, and I’m able to fix all that in Photoshop and generate a new negative, and that has changed everything. Nothing wrong with being dedicated to film.
