Ida in natural light studio

Ida with iPhone in our natural light studio. This is a Harman positive taken with my 8x10 Ansco and the 340 mm Petzval at f4.4. Trying out the light in our studio. Should learn how to reflect some light into the shadows.

I like this very much as it is. But since you bring it up, the simplest method of reflecting light is to use large white board (say 32 x 40 inches) clamped to a light stand. I like board that's white on one side, black on the other. One can also use silver board for stronger reflection. Just place the board opposite from where the light is coming from and put your head by the lens and look at the effect. Have someone turn it away and replace it to see the effect both ways. Move it around a bit, closer further away, and at different angles.

Windshield sun shades make great reflectors: silver, light weight and collapsable. -- I wonder what pictures of teenagers gazing into their cell phones will look like from the perspective of 100 years hence? A bit like we respond to pictures of Victorian girls gazing into a Daguerreotype of some absent lover? "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity."

Thank you Nicholas. windshield shades sounds like a great idea.About gazing into the iPhone: Yes you are right about the anachronistic perspective. I was thinking about posing with a novel though, like something by Jane Austen./matti
