Thank you for the kind comments. This photograph is of trees reflected in the pebbly surface of a frozen pond. The texture of the ice has removed all of the high frequency information in the trees and left just the sinewy forms. I also flipped the image vertically.
The first question I get from my wife when showing her a new print is, "Hmmm, what is that?". I enjoy abstract compositions and I really enjoy John's (jnanian) abstractions. When I look at his work, I often think, "There is so much there there without the 'there' being in your face". I keep trying to get more of that "thereness" in my photographs, but often find myself shackled by a dependence on realism, either consciously or subconsciously. One can but try, and try.
