I don't remember taking this photo at all, although I believe I've identified the night as being about 18 months ago at a pub called The Princess Louise.
This was from a roll of film I found at the back of a drawer marked 'push to 1600'. So, TMAX-400 two stop push, dev'd in HC110-dilB. Work print on Ilford Multigrade IV.
I * never* take my camera out in the pub, by the way. That's why I know I was very, very drunk.
Drunk or not you might have been but she looks sober and might be interested in a print! It's very good . Has that high contrast, slightly grainy look reminiscent of photojournalistic shots of maybe 40/50 yrs ago.
In the B&W films they used to make, you're both the main player and narrator and apart from the beginning and end, all the rest is told in flashback.
A bit like the B&W version of DOA(Dead on Arrival) with Edmund O'Brien.
I printed this one mainly because I'm 're-learning' in the darkroom having been without one for the better part of the year, and I figured this somewhat thin negative would be suitably challenging. It wasn't as hard as I'd expected to get a first print though actually, although obviously it needs a fair bit of work.
For one this is definitely one of those photos for which 8x10 gives exactly the wrong crop. I think it needs a bit more on the left to balance it properly.
