Hunting Stand - Portersville, PA

6x7cm silver gelatin contact print.

I've been eying this stand up for a couple of years now but the light and roadside stopping situations were never quite right. Things finally came together though I didn't have my 4x5 which I planned to use... but I did have the RB67. The best camera is the one you have with you... =)

I'm not a hunter and haven't been since I was a child (born into a family of outdoorsmen) but I've always been intrigued by the various stands that people use...

Nice. It's what I call a "something from nothing" photo.

Thank you fellows. There is something about the Pennsylvania woods and fields in late fall and winter that I cannot describe with words... I've been out in them during those times since I was a child - on hikes, tagging along on hunting trips with my father and brother, and until recently deer "hunting" myself in homemade stands of varying types. I put hunting in quotes because I did not go out to kill anything, I've never taken a shot (I'm a vegetarian!) but it was a way to be out in nature and observe without a camera, as well as spend some time with friends. Calm, quiet scenes like this have always had a special place in my heart and stir emotions that I feel compelled to express through photography.

I could think of a hundred ways to photograph a deer stand. None would be as good as this.

Looks like the beginnings of a nice series. I have spent many hours in a deer stand and I know just what you are talking about. Just being there watching nature go by was what it was all about for me. The deer used to laugh at me when they saw my longbow  Nice photograph Shawn, look forward to seeing it in the near future

Strong sense of composition to your photo Shawn and the quality looks great. I enjoyed reading your introduction and feedback on your work.

Thank you fellows. =)

Robert, it is a series... sort of. I've been making exposure of them when I can for several years now. I'm not one to really work that way, in a series that is. Stands are something that continually draws my interest though... After another 10 years I might have enough for a portfolio!
