Shapes lose their 'utilitarian significance' when employed solely for artistic purposes. This is an example of such enhanced use. Mere form formulates a dichotomy between the 'functional' vs the 'aesthetic and esoteric'. Form, for only its own sake, satisfies my desire for beauty. - David Lyga
David - sometimes your thoughts actually strike fertile soil in my fledgling knoggin. The beauty (or lack) in something functional is big medicine in my imagination. It often seems to be at the expense of being able to compose an image of a whole object, but I sure like it when the detail shot exposes pleasing arrangement of somewhat universal forms. I'm never surprised when some invention/creation coincidentally mirrors pleasing natural forms. 100 yrs later, the tooth on a saw chain remains a copy of the jaw of a carpenter ant or termite.
