This image is from a town in Arkansas that I just started exploring. Helena is a dying delta cotton town with blues music heritage. Recently a massive drug bust included police officers and led to over 70 arrests. I find the town fascinating for all those reasons and more.
I live in Memphis, but I'm originally from the Forrest City area, just a couple of counties north, and grew up in a rural town. Such corruption is all too familiar. The ascent of the methamphetamine use and trade in recent years has only accelerated the decline of the region.Beautiful and emotionally evocative print!
Great! This is where a Holga shines (blurs?). The sign would be considered politicly incorrect today, kind of like Aunt Jemima. I love small towns, grew up near one, pop. 450 on a good day. When we travel, we explore the small towns and stop at local restaurants so we can talk to people. Keep exploring and sharing!
