Thank you Macfred. Actually I have a couple of people to thank. I had some comments from K.Hendrik about my photographs being unsharp. After several photographs were criticised I became quite irritated about it because my photographs are not unsharp but they do not display well when I upload them. Eric Rose kindly directed me to a guide to scanner settings. This helped but in fact the main problem was the re-sizing of the photographs for the web so I read up on that subject. I used the "save for web" feature in photoshop for this photo and it has made a huge difference. I hope my photos from now on will display as sharp. It has been very frustrating as up until now, every single photograph I have posted has been degraded in sharpness.

I took that Ship on MY Olympus OM-2n ( taken over from my Boy who never uses it now) when i went on a Coach Trip from Brentwood to the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth -- I used B&W .

Did you get a chance to go on board Pete? We had our department Christmas party on board a few years back. It's tricky to get the whole ship in without a 24mm but it is possible with a 28mm. In the afternoon the light is often quite challenging and difficult to get the exposure right. The light strikes the shiny black of the ship and creates very bright highlights which are easy to "blow out" (see the stern of the ship). Then there is the complication of reflected light from the water so at certain angles of the sun even more awkward. I am fortunate that the ship is close to my work so I can wander and take photographs during my lunch break if I like.

I'm pleased with Ektar. The colours seem natural and not over saturated. The red of the ship is exactly right -not a bright red but the red of "red iron primer".

Here's another one (at the time I didn't know how to use PS to remove dust)
