One of two images for the current postcard exchange.
There's actually quite a lot of information in the negative, but it's hard to get all the detail in the shadows while getting enough exposure for the highlights. Will need to experiment further once I have my darkroom set up.
Interesting photograph and an event that remembers what the world hopefully never forgets. I see a lot of detail in the shadows. In my opinion you might want to try a lower contrast filtration or a softer developer next time you print this. Pre-flashing the paper might also be a good idea to give those highlights some texture.
Thanks Thomas -- I did think that pre-flashing would help, although I didn't in this case as it was for the postcard exchange and a little too much work -- especially as I was working in a community darkroom in Tokyo at the time. I'll also need to explore my options for softer developers here in Japan. Most of what's available here is Fuji-based, but there's not a lot of English information about their products here. This is the last week of work for me (before 2 months of summer vacation) so I hope to have lots of time to experiment with my negs once I have my darkroom finally set up once and for all!
