A temple that Lonely Planet describes as a "spiritual powerhouse" in Kathmandu. I liked the image of the man diligently studying as a funeral was being prepared in the background.
That is great Colin. Have you thought of losing the top part of the image and isolating him with the reflection of the buildings behind him only? It might create context with less clutter...love the mood regardless.. Rgds, Kal
Like it! Kal's suggestion makes another picture, also an interesting one ,and perhaps "spiritual" kind of picture. Wonder what "novel" he is reading? /Bertil
Thanks, guys...yes Kal, I did think of that. Actually thought of trying to shoot that way at that moment. But, I wanted to get what was going on in the background into the image -- that's a body being prepared for cremation (they cremate them in pyres on the big square pedestals you see in this image) and it was a big part of what was going on there...I guess I liked the juxtaposition of the quiet contemplation and study, and the chaotic scene and mourning in the background. Definitely it would make a different and appealing image, though -- good suggestion!
I really like this the way it is because all the clutter and activity in the background actually gives him more of a sense of isolation. Great series, keep them coming!
