This is another shot from the construction site of a cardiology clinic in the town of Xique-Xique.
This clinic was the topic of many conversations I had in Xique-Xique, as it would allow for diagnosis and some treatment on site. There was talk of the possibility of a helicopter pad, which would allow for critical patients to be flown out to Salvador (Bahia's capital), at 600km away.
A bus ride from Xique-Xique to Salvador takes about 10 hours due to the road conditions, ambulances and cars take even longer (I remember once seeing a Land Rover going through a "hole" in the road with all 4 wheels in it). Not to mention the possibility of being robbed. On my return to Salvador from this particular trip the bus I rode had 3 close encounters, not to mention the numerous abandoned buses by the side of the road (which were recovered daily, suggesting that all abandoned buses were robbed that night). In fact, a famous soccer player and a popular band were robbed on that road that night. All band members died as their bus attempted to flee the robbery, the soccer player was dropped off naked in the middle of nowhere.
As with all my work, comments/critiques are welcome and hoped for.
