The first print I've made that I think worthy of an APUG gallery. In the interest of my education all qualified criticisms, positive or negative, welcomed.
You made a very good picture wich tells many story and I like it very much!
Would like to see it a bit larger, to see more details!
Greetings Armin J. Seeholzer
Great image, very timeless.
It looks like there wasn't much sun at the time so it's a little flat. An increase in contrast would really pump it up.
Have fun with this image..there's alot you can do with it.
I'd like to also see it as a 'panaroma' cropped at the curb line.
Any more?
Thanks for the comments.
It's the 'many stories' aspect that fascinates me about it as well. I do plan on printing it larger, I'm using the small paper at the moment (it should be about life size on screen) because I have inherited a lot of it and it therefore makes all my mistakes cheaper.
I'll try expanding the contrast, I have some harder grades of the Ilfobrom, but I'm concerned about losing too much detail in the shadows under the arches and also losing the detail in the stonework, which is another of the things that I like about the picture, particularly as it shows the original ornamentation alongside the decay.
I'm not sure about the crop along the curb line. The composition would work, other than chopping a couple of people in half, which I don't like, but I think the people in the street add a fair proportion of the individual stories aspect; what's that guy photographing, who is the girl on the bike, is the guy in the car a taxi driver waiting for a fare or has the car broken down...again ?
Plenty of things to try though so thanks for the suggestions.
There are some more Havana photos but they're still work in progress :0)
Fisrt off, nice image. I like it and I detest street scenes.
Playing with my official image cropper (a white piece of card stock) I like the imge better cropped at the photographer's feet. I don't know why, but taking that small a piece off improves it for me. I also like it if the photog is cropped out altogether. the aspect is more pleasing.
This scene is fascinating, ordinary, post cardy. I really like it as it simply forces you to look around. composition is great and appears effortless, almost accidental (which I doubt)
