Powerfull. Each to his own, I would have preferred a reflector for some shadow detail.
 
I think it's fine fading to black but I might reduce the contrast slightly for a little smoother gradation from highlight to shadow, but that may be a digital artifact.
 
Reminds me a bit of Karsh's photo of Hemingway. I think maybe the contrast is a bit much, but it stands as is as an intresting photograph.
 
Thank you all for your comments. This image is from a 35mm slide of the16x20 print and the print does have a bit more detail. The light was an umbrella, camera left, but no fill from camera or backlighting, that was a mistake on my part.
