Hanging In There

Was out for a quick walk this afternoon. All this funeral prep is tiring! We had a great bit of hoar frost last night so that what was on the photographic menu.

This being a digital image of course gives it the kiss of death as far as Photrio goes, hence no comments. Good, bad or indifferent. Actually I find that digital centric forums generally attract "grazers", those that consume images but don't want to take the time to comment. It's like they need another image fix as quick as possible. Maybe that's what's happening, the D images posted on Photrio attract digi shooters more than those that have a foot in both mediums. Who knows.

Anyway I will comment on my image. To me it represents two souls, souls that are in love, and they are trying to keep each other sheltered from the elements. Even though they are frozen, they have lost their pretty coloured coat while they still cling to their "home" and each other. All around them, and on them, are the ravages of the world. Can they make it until spring or will they like all living things eventually become dust and dirt. Thus starting the cycle all over again.

This is what goes through my mind when I am creating images. Does it tell a story or create a feeling. I am much less interested in rules and geek stuff. How about you, what goes through your mind? Are you only concerned with leading lines, positive and negative spaces, exposure, DOF and god forbid bokeh? Sure these things are important to creating an expressive photograph, but once you master this it's time to actually MAKE expressive photographs that allow people to create their own stories out of them.

What say you?

hi eric
im a grazer and i am an omnivore image grazer. i can see where you are coming from though..
and your interpretation of the image
what i see is something a little different
i see 2 slippers hanging on a line being kissed by the cold snow
it makes me think of swimming in the stream, maybe a sauna that might be nearby
and the wind reminding me that its not just cold and wintery, its really cold and wintery.
im a fan of shallow DOF so your mind can wander and empty space. sometimes when the image
has too many details my mind wanders into oblivion and im kind of overwhelmed .. not this one though
slippers and cold ... brrr ! hope you had another pair of shoes !
