Haarlem By Night

Railway station Haarlem.

The line Haarlem-Amsterdam was the first railway line in the Netherlands established in 1839. This building is actually the fourth railway station Haarlem has seen. Its construction (1902-1908) was a major feat of engineering, both in terms of the beautiful design by architect Margadant, and the fact that the old railway station needed to stay in operation during its construction (although obviously much had to be demolished first), requiring stringent planning and even night work to avoid disrupting the normal train operation on the important line.
