Haarlem by night

We've had some beautiful winter days not so long ago here in the Netherlands. Although conditions look pretty cheerful here, at minus 5 and with a very high humidity and wind, it felt like -15. Despite three shirts and a jacket, I was freezing after two hours or so... Still worth it.

I'm looking at this series and I especially love this one. For all the contrast it has a very soft look about it. Very nice.

A very nice series and I’m impressed by your technique.

This one is particularly impressive to me. The backlit tree, combined with the soft lighting of the background draw you right into the image. Just very well done!

Actually, very much of the mood of this series has been determined by the weather conditions. Although it may not be all that obvious, there was actually a quite pronounced fog and low cloud cover, hence the soft lighting in the background. Usually, I would burn in such a background a bit while printing, however, this time I made a conscious decision not to do so, as I think the very light background as caused by the fog and lighting, add much to the depth of the image in combination with the dark trees in the foreground.
