Can not use batteries -- needs a AC/DC converter (the MA-4) and an MC-2 cable.

It can be operated by either a remote control device (MW-1, MW-1, ML-1) or by an Intervalometer (MT-1, MT-2). Of course it can also be triggered by a cable release or manually,
