If this is taken by a 'total novice' I look forward to seeing your pictures when you get good! I like the way transition from the smooth rocks in the foreground to the more jagged ones in the centre. I would have been tempted to darken the sky a little but still keep the bright horizon.

Keep getting up early!

Since you're looking for comments I'll speak my mind. I'm thinking that the image is stronger if you crop about 2/3 of the sky out. That gives the darker foreground much more impact. As it is now my eyes are drawn into the picture and then to the sky. If I scroll down and 'crop' the top off within the browser I notice myself focusing harder on the real subject matter, which is the rock formation.

Lovely print. I am really looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank you for you comments they're much appreciated.

I will give the crop a try, I think you're right i was just a little nervous of the bright horizon detracting from the rocks.

I'd be interested in seeing a crop but I suspect that you'd lose the best part of the sky. I think both the rocks and sky have a place in this one.

Molten is just the right word. They look as if they are still setting at the dawn of time.

Darkening the sky, and maybe going beyond what Rob may have in mind would, I think, produce a slightly surreal effect which might suit this scene.
