Photo taken approximately 5 minutes after the sun cleared mountains behind me. Wind blowing across lake in 4 second exposure. Image award winner, Professional Photographers of America. Image used by Cymbolic Sciences in 40" x 50" form, also used by Bill Nordstrom/Laser Light Photographics. Image used by and in corporate offices of Bogen Photo/Gitzo, Ramsey, NJ.
Thanks for the compliments guys. This is actually the second photo taken and printed in a series. The previous image, in Pink Light (entitled Predawn, Nymph Lake was taken about 10 minutes earlier than this image and was about a 10 second exposure) was taken before the sun had cleared the mountains behind me. In the image Golden Light, Nymph Lake above, the sun had cleared the mountains behind me and was shining direct gold light on the mountainside in about a 4 second exposure. When both images were taken, wind was blowing across the lake; I expected ripples to be visible, but apparantly the exposure time resulted in smoothing out the lake surface, but may have softened the reflection slightly. In both images a Heliopan 3 stop Grad ND filter was used so that the film could register the exposure in the foreground reflection, mountainside, and in the sky. The larger the image is printed the more impressive it becomes. By the time it is printed to about a 24" x 30" photo the image is large enough to give the viewer the impression that they are standing there at the time the image was recorded.
Again, thanks for the additional compliments. This is one of if not Bill Nordstrom's (my printer for 11 1/2 years) favorites of all of my photos. It has been one of the most successful photos that I have and the biggest money maker in a single year. The prints of this are a bit warmer than this scan and the lighting was just amazing.
Nice Rich!
I don't get north of I-70 very often, but will someday. Ever travel to the San Jauns, in southern Colorado? I bet you would really enjoy the subject matter.
Thanks for the positive words. Also, thanks for the suggestion to get to San Juans in southern Colorado. Unfortunately I haven't been to Colorado in quite some years, but will certainly consider them as a prime location when I return. Rich
