Glowing Cross on a Hill

Glowing Cross on a Hill

Driving past this gradeschool for years, never noticed this giant glowing cross on a hill, I think the snow highlighted it and so I stopped to shoot a roll. This was particularly difficult as it's off of a main road and I kept getting passing headlight "fog" and one van that literally drive right through the shot as I'm standing there as if he didn't even see me, it was dark but still... Anyway have a few good ones.

This one sadly was cut short early, it was supposed to be the longest exposure of 20 minutes so I set it, walked to my car to nap for a bit and when I got back discovered my camera battery had died. I had the previous exposure at 10 minutes and that one seems pretty similar so it must have died around 10 minutes give or take. grrr...

Definitely kind of eerie, which I like. Gotta give you credit for going out on a cold winter night.

Captured the long tonal scale well, but it does look like an Alien walking out of the woods...you know, the glowing kind

Nicely done. I like the cold juxtaposed against the heat of the light, and the spiritual implications. One of your better posts, I think.

Thanks, guess I'm getting closer to "remarkable" haha

I agree with Eddie. This picture is interesting with very strong content.

The 20 mins would have been interesting as it would have added to my knowledge of long exposure night photography but I suspect that 10 mins is closer to achieving the look that such a night shot needs achieve.

Stone, I really like this one. The odd ball that I am, I love the detail in the snow and foreground. The positioning of the big rock in front of the cross really adds to the shot as well. Thanks for sharing, Don

Thanks Don, I lifted the boulder there myself  love setting the scene properly and all... :whistling:

Great shot there; you have a good handle on extreme exposures and managed to keep very good details in the shadows. Love this.
