The combination of the mixed twilight, lighting and paint colors make these pictures. I'll bet they're even more goofy/wonderful in prints. Well seen and well done! Peter Gomena
Come over some time on a Tuesday night - there's a long-standing b/w darkroom printing class that I sometimes pop in to. Tico Herrera is the instructor and he's a blast.
This shot was a challenge to me to balance the neon, buildings, and the light in the sky. I think this time I nailed it. There's a very narrow window for shooting where the brightness of the twilight sky is enough that you have color and detail in the sky, but it isn't seven stops brighter than the foreground. I was able to be there and shoot during that window.
I took these photos on a Tuesday night. It's actually a national park system facility with most of the buildings converted to arts studios and performance spaces. The sole remaining ride is the carousel, which is only open 12-5 on weekends after labor day.
