Driving south from Brunswick, Ga. last Sunday morning, I pulled the car over when I saw this. It's a Georgia-Pacific paper mill filling the air with the stench of manufacture. There is a digital version I also took with my little Canon S100 that's posted on DPUG with an entirely different aspect ratio.
" It's a Georgia-Pacific paper mill filling the air with the stench of manufacture"It is also the stench of the Koch brothers who own G-P, but it is also a very well done photograph.
Very nice John, my kinda subject! One theory is the smell, built on the fragrance of hydrogen sulfide, is good. At a system startup in just such a place, the process manager read a long paragraph to us about how H2S desensitizes the olfactory organs. His summary was "If you can't smell it, yer dead!"
Thank you tony, Bruce, Jon, Dave, and Heinz. I'm told this G-P plant is quite unpopular in the Brunswick area. There used to be such mills in Jacksonville, too, but they're pretty much gone now.
jovo, have just looked at the other shot on DPUG which doesn't have the same power as this one and I'm not saying that because the other one is digital. What makes this shot is that thick black line at the bottom, like an underscore for the visual statement. Great shot and beautifully printed.
