Have long admired Clay Harmon's garage series and have 'seen' this shot each day on my way to work. It will work much better with a couple of gum layers I think, but wanted to share and see what others think.
Thank You All for your comments. It was indeed the combination of tonalities and form that caused me to stop and set up. The area was dark, and the morning was overcast and the way the light filtered in was perfect for me...and only one car came by (was worried about vibration).
I like this also. Two keys to this one I think. First, the fact that the seam in the concrete running horizontal is broken at the pillar forces the eye to stop and consider the wall in sections. Second, as simple as it seems without the parking lines it would be fairly static. The lines force the eye to the center pillar and the offset seam. Once your eyes go there you are compelled to really examine the patterns and tonality of the concrete, especially the two light portions, one at the bottom left of the pillar and a fainter area top and to the right. They balance the dark top and center of the pillar nicely.
"Ode to Clay Harmon" - I like it mike. Well scene and executed. On my screen there is a "reddish/maroon" tone... did you use the LiPd to get this? something else? Really like it and am excited to see how your gum layers improve the already successful image.
Thanks Jim and Matt for your comments.
Jim, you nailed how the photo was set up and intent.
Matt, the reddish/maroon tone is more intense in the scan than the print (scanned as color) but yes, there is some reddish/maroon color and I just attribute it to the LiPd. May try a mix of CsPd and LiPd to see what comes from that.
