I've been sporadically working with an 8x10 camera, and had some success last year, then several abject failures, and now finally, a portrait I'm happy with, and decided to make a fiber contact print.
beautiful.light, print.... congrats ......, but wow ! how big have they gotten , I feel iliike I know those boys for years , they are the same two that you have photographed over the years , aren't they ?
I love the textured wall and the minimalist feel here. And especially that look on the right. Very effective for me. But I would be remiss if I didn't also ask... Why is this garage so clean?
They're so big! I love the framing and the texture of the wall really works well. A smooth wall wouldn't be nearly as good. And I agree with Ken - it looks like a set 'cause I've never seen a garage that clean.
Hahaha... believe me, the garage is far from clean!! Just goes to show you that photographs lie!! It's a very narrow garage, and being in New England it's important to use the garage for the cars, so we don't have room for "stuff" on either side of the cars, and this is a side wall. What's in front of the cars is another story altogether... and yes, my older son is taller than me (and my husband!), it's been flying by. Thanks for the nice comments.
It does require some patience on both our parts, and the abject failures described above had as much to do with my own clumsy framing as their boredom at my taking too long, that naturally they just had to start moving around just as I'm making the exposure!! Gah! I think it will just take a bit of practice for me (and them) because in the end, there's nothing quite as nice to my eyes as a portrait on 8"x10" film. Thanks!
Nice use of the shapes and tones of the space. I know the challenge of setting up an 8x10 for a photo of the kids! Spend a bunch of time setting up and focusing and then hope they cooperate for a few moments. It all came together here.
