Nice work Vic. I actually thought this was a lith print until I read the paper/dev information. I think this gives it a nice gritty atmostphere and works well with the subject matter
Thanks Andrew. Appreciate the feedback. I MAY have used Rodinal which would explain the grain a bit better.
I was pretty whacked that night..I needed a molar pulled the next day and a root canal the day after that so I was in agony as I sort of remember it
The rodinal dev works really well for this image. I would not change a thing. I think this is the better image out of the two. Btw, it sounds like you and I have similar teeth! Being from England, my teeth aren't the best, and had a similar thing happen not that long ago. There is nothing worse than tooth ache!
I looked at all four as thumbnails and the toning really stands out and draws me. When I look at each on its own, it's less clear which I prefer but overall I'd go for toned.
The warmth suits people shots, I feel ,although this may be less so in people shots in, say, heavy industry or featuring machinery.
I took a shot of a friend's re-built classic motorcycle and printed it on Ilford Cooltone paper with Cooltone dev and thought it suited the subject. I have since run out of Cooltone paper and used Multigrade IV in a re-print but again with Cooltone dev and now I am really not so sure whether the Cooltone paper made that much difference.
I suspect that in my case and with my prints, the answer I'd have to give to the question which is best is: "I'll tell you after I have tried different combos"
