I passed this very old run down building in Cabin Point along route 10 in Virginia on my back roads route to the beach the other week. As soon as I passed it I knew I had to come back for further inspection. The sun was high as it was around noon and was very contrasty light. But it was perfect light to bring out the texture and grain of the wood on the barred up windows and front doors of this old building which appeared to maybe be an old general store.
Well done. I applaud your courage in composing the picture so symetrically. I recently shot a similar kind of composition, but did the expected and put the vertical line 1/3 of the way across the picture. My intuition at the time was to place it in the middle, and after seeing the proof sheet I know that I should have followed it.
Thanks everyone. Dan, I try not to follow rules and just follow my instinct when out photographing. I prefer to spend time thinking and learning about the technical aspects of photography and just let what I see and how I see alone. I don't want to mess with my own style!
