Thanks. I tried, too, but I think the birds got most of the seeds and then the snails took care of the seedlings. We have a single one in the backyard that's doing surprisingly well - smack in the middle, right where I sowed...nothing.
These ones were gifted by a friend's mother; they live at the edge of the village. I made them a print of a different photo of the same vase and framed it for them. She's happy with it, which made my day!

My neighbor has a bird feeder with sunflower seeds, the birds come over from there and I'll find them sprouting up in random places. The plants are tasty to eat when they're small.
