When i choose a really particular composition I always try to do it in keeping with the "story" related by the picture otherwise it is only a gratuitous and vain effect..
The sign "for rent" with the door open is a kind of invitation to enter this gloomy and bleak world. The off axis illustrates the fall into the world of darkness....
To answer Eric with a little bit of humour, I'd say that if you plan on being dead just for a short time, no need to rent a place, a handful of nails from our DIY store, Resurrection Avenue will do...

The diagonal really works here; an off-kilter representation of an off-kilter world, crazy and maniacal. Absolutely love it!.
