Well folks, I WAS doing those "artsy" polaroid xfer things in my young days. I am still unpacking from my move and getting around to getting at my photos. I saw this one that I have framed and I thought I'd share it. Its the Flatiron building and on the matt, I have dated 1991.

I used to walk around NYC with this crazy Polaroid Square shooter, a contractor's clipboard (metal and opens up inside). Inside it, I had my roller, and a pack of Crane's Kid Finish Ecruwhite.

These xfers are really popular today it seems. I worked at a lab down the block from this and 8/10 hours a day, all I saw was sharp, sharp, negs from "real" cameras like Nikon's, Hassy's, Mamiya's and LF. It was fun and different to use Dianas/Holgas/and Xfers at that time. It was really funny cause sometimes, my contacts would be around the lab and people thought it was Sylvia's Plachy's stuff cause for some reason...we had similar styles. I'll look for a photo in her book..a boy on a boat feeding a seagull. I have one just like it and later on, I saw her's and gave me chills. Another time, I had one of Bart Simpson's head just before the Tday parade. Used my Holga in 645 format. Made prints at the lab. People liked it. A week later, Slyvia had one just like it published in the Village Voice. From then on...she was my favorite photogs. Just found out she's mother to that actor guy.

Melisa Taylor has a good piece on polaroid emulsion lifts in the "Articles" area here on APUG. I think it is under "How To"

I like the colors that you got here.

Really great image. I remember when that was a scarey neighborhood. 23rd used to be deserted after working hours..now it's Times Sq all the time.
