This was taken on a recent trip to Death Valley to escape the rains of Oregon. I used my 8x10 and this was the first time I used minimal agitation to process actual negatives. The print has all the detail one would expect and a smoothness I hadn't planned on.
I've tried and deleted about 5 attempts to say how impressed I am with this image...so I'll try to keep it short. It's no easy thing to find, then to so carefully frame such a simple yet complex composition from the maddeningly infinite possibilities of such a place, not to mention the technical control. This print would stop me in my tracks for a long time if I encountered it in a gallery.
Thank you all for your kind words. It was so much fun to be there. You can imagine how excited I was framing this on the 8x10 ground glass - very sudective. Death Valley is a can't miss place.
It's true that Death Valley is a can't-miss place but it's still difficult to find compositions that work. This is a drop-dead gorgeous image. Simple, yet elegant composition with sensual lines. A winner all the way!
