I recently took a class in handcoloring, and this was my first landscape, done in class. The print was made by the instructor (terri) and is 11x14 made from a 4x5 negative & printed on Kentmere semi-matte fiber. I did have to scan it in two parts & stitch it together, but I did not do anything else to it (as evidenced by the goofy stitch line). :)
This is lovely. Proves that colour doesn't have to be all brilliance and high saturation. I'm not sure I would have included all the tarmac in the foreground, though.
I just wish I had the patience to have a go at hand-colouring!
Wonderful! If you had not told me, I would have guessed it was a color shot. Although I agree with Rob's suggestion on cropping it's still very well done! Nice work!

Well, the picture was actually taken by our instructor's husband. He works for the Georgia DOT & took this shot as part of an assignment to shoot bridges from various angles, so this was the photo we were given. I liked it because we had a number of options for coloring. I chose to make it a bit of what I would call a typical fall-storm-is-comin day here in Wisconsin.
Thanks for the comments! This is just plain a ton of fun mixed with a wee bit of frustration! hahaha
For a first attempt it looks pretty good. It it had been me I'd have been very satisfied with this. How long was the instruction before you began on this print and how long to do this print? I ask because I fancy a go myself but it looks like it's a teach yourself for me. I have never seen any courses in the U.K.
The class was a 2-day workshop. Terri had us do a portrait the first day (dealing with skin tones is a "pita". Then the second day, we had a couple hours of instruction then started in on the landscape. Since in the "real world" I actually love photographing landscapes, this one was much easier for me. I am an extremely visual learner so for me, the workshop was a must. I had a great time & learned a lot! I'd say to give it a go!
Very nice! My wife has expressed interest in doing this. I bought her oils for her birthday this coming April. I have some 5x7 fibre-based paper on hand but it curls so badly I'll have to figure some way to mount the prints for her.
