Father in Law

Taken on a family meal. My father in law is about as blue collar as they come and is a man of very few words. The way a photo can capture someone's spirit never ceases to amaze me.

Good portrait and looks like good skin tones a la Portra NC. Most important that shots like these are taken. I took a number in the 1970's of my future father-in-law whom we'd taken to visit my parents. He got on with them like a house on fire and it shows in the shots as does the real man here. They were simply snaps then but the negs remain and thank goodness they were taken as within a few years none of the people were alive.

Consider cropping off the sides: the left to remove the distracting vertical light and the right at about the same place on his left shoulder. The vertical orientation and concentration on his face is quite powerful.
