My grandaughter. She's 12 years old and just loves this game and is good at it. It isn't easy to find the "decisive moment" with these sports pictures, and I don't think Rob Skeoch has to worry about the competition.
This is a great shot! Such concentration! It is wonderful that you are recording this for her (and her parents). Our youngest daughter played competitive ball for 4 years and it consumed my life from April til August. We watched some exciting games! I wish I had taken more and better photos.
This is the one from the series you have shown us, I think is the best.
Her concentration and eyes on the ball, along with the way she is wearing her clothes, (shirt on catching arm pushed up) tells me she is at the business end of the game and doing the business!
I take it that Fastball, is a young persons version of Baseball?
Fastball is a different game. It uses a larger ball than baseball, and the pitching is done underhanded with a big windmill windup. I think it's more exciting than baseball, as the field is smaller and it's a faster game. The pros can pitch the ball at a tremendous speed. I think americans pretty much dominate the game at the high end, both men and women. Softball is a derivitive of fastball.
I never knew there were three variations of the game, one learns something new every day.
I have a friend who lived in the USA for a couple of years, he played cricket here and was badgered into playing for his company in a social game. In cricket we don't have anything other than our hands to catch the ball, he was used to catching with his right hand, then throwing with his right hand. He did this a couple of times in the game, apparently to interesting wonderment by the locals.
