This is a photo I took of my Da shortly before he died at 87. By this stage he had lost 90% of eyesight and used a white stick to get around. I was finishing off a roll of TMAX 3200 which I had rated at 1600 asa.
I focused on his hand for one my shots so as to show that the hand had now become his eyes and opened the lens right up to give the impression that his eyesight was fading.
Exceptional portrait. I like the point of focus and also the body position with the forearm directly behind, further emphasizing his hand. I sense a relaxed determination.
I like the image and was going to comment on the focus until I read your text of why the focus had moved. Excellent portrait, IMO a wonderfull tribute.
Is it natural light? One of things I hope to attempt in the future.
Beautifully executed photograph. The lighting and, especially, the blacks and whites playing off each other really add to the fading eyesight theme. I hope you print and frame this as it deserves a prominent piece of real estate on you wall. This is what I enjoy about photography!
