My claim to fame with this photo was that it was stolen from a college photo exhibit some 26 years ago. I must admit that I was somehow gratified.

This has always been one of my favorite images. In those days, we all fantasized about being photojournalists like Eugene Smith or David Douglas Duncan.

Like the photo of the boy, it was scanned from a work print since the original neg is hiding somewhere.

There were approximately one million protesters.

Lately, I've been looking for my field jacket and wondering if this could happen again. Perhaps?

I like the face of the girl who is smiling, really enjoying the moment. Usually every picture you see of the peace rallies are of intense faces no one smiling.

There were times when I took myself too seriously and found myself a bit upset with her for missing the point of the protest. But young love, or old love for that matter, is not to be denied. As important as the day was, it was indeed a social event as well. I think that she adds an interesting sense of irony to an otherwise angry photo. I wonder what became of her.

This is a very nice image that works at many levels -compositionally, storytelling-wise- and it also has a nostalgic "glow" that I find charming.
 
brings back memories, I will have to dig out some negs....actually although the marches were serious, they were not unenjoyable...there were many smiles and lots of laughter, as well as shouting speeches..my locale was Grant Park, Chicago Illinois...
