This is the first of three images that I rescued from work prints. I cherry picked certain negatives from this series for safe keeping approximately 25 years ago. Of course I found all of the boring negatives but I'll be damned if I can find the gooduns. This was taken at the November Peace Rally in Washington. I'll keep looking.
These faces have haunted me for years. What became of the boy. He must be in his fifties. Did he go to war. Is he alive. He seemed to be alone. I think I was a bit worried about his being so young. I was all of 22 at the time, and waiting for my deferment to run out. Just writing this brings back some of the anxiety that we all felt.
Well-l-l, I wasn't at that one but I was at the "May Day" gathering in 71. Were you there? Remember Abby Hoffman?
Interesting shots. We were so ignorant of what was going on. One of the boys traveling with us from Florida was Cuban. His parents had escaped at night by boat, after they found out Castro wasn't who they thought he was. He said, "you don't know what you're doing and who you're following. it's not what you think." Still he went, got tear gassed, arrested. It was just a big party to us, at 19 years old.
