I went and checked Brant's print on Google (here else!) and it has a lot of background stuff in perfect focus (window, chair, door, etc) that actually distracts from the main subject. Since he chose to keep it in focus, I am assuming he wanted it that way.
I guess one could argue that that complements the main subject but, to my personal taste, yours is better!
Gaston 012 - Thanks very much - I cannot decide in the Brandt original if the background compliments or distracts from the main subject.
awty - yes they are goose bumps - I was boiling hot and she was continuously cold, despite being wrapped up in a thick wool blanket just out of shot. Some days there is no happy temperature balance to be struck.
