Since acquiring a 4x5 enlarger with a glass 4x5 neg carrier, I have become intrigued with printing multiple images in various arrays. In this format I'm interested in the spaces in between frames ... the actual space is always equal (given camera X) but the amount of TIME between frames can be .. anything. A fraction of a second, a week, a year. I love that ambiguity, one the only film can produce.
Naturally the idea isn't mine, been around as long as film ... but for me, its the thing I lost the most shooting digital and a big reason I have returned to film almost exclusively. Ambiguity has always been of interest to me.
Of course one can arrange images on a single print in various ways .. but the consecutive frames together presented as a single silver gelatin print (in my case) offers "proof" of their existence together. For me these ideas are important. I've become tired of people asking "how" photographs were made (so prevelant in digital or any manipulation) and am more interested in "when" "where" and/or "why."
