Thank you Michael ! I have to get my s..t together, finish setting up a darkroomn and start printing again, so I can share new material. I'm glad you enjoyed what I've posted so far.
Wonderfully harmonious and well balanced tones and textures. Just a beautiful photograph to enjoy.
I live in the temperate rainforest climate of the US Pacific Northwest. A biologist once told me that a temperate rainforest averages greater biomass per cubic meter than even a tropical rainforest. Don't know if that's true. But looking at this photograph reminds me again of just how difficult it is to wring any sort of arranged order from these contexts.
These plants are different from mine, but the density appears distressingly similar. I've tried within my context, and will try again. But my efforts are nowhere near as successful as this. Maybe it's the biologist's eye I'm lacking? Don't know. But I sometimes wonder if St. Ansel was aware of how non-claustrophobic he actually had it in those open and airy pine forests of Yosemite.
Thanks Ken ! I've always wanted to photograph temperate rainforest. Especially Olympic N.P.! I am sure your biomass statement is true. Tropical rainforests are more diverse than their northern counterparts, but northern ecosystems have higher densities of most components. And I think thar what you describe as "biologists eye," is nothing more than visiting these wonderful places over and over, until one day the light is just right.
It looks like it was taken in my back yard. I was just out there looking for something to photograph but it's a little too windy right now. I have done some photography in the rainforest at Quinault as well.
