I took this at Sheffield Park Station, on the Bluebell Railway, UK on a very grey day. I would probably not have been able to take from this angle if the sun had been shining, as it would have been against the light, and I would have had trouble with flare. Regards, John.
John, a very nice image. I like the tonal rendition.
I'm wondering if the square block of a building at the right side could have been removed by a lower angle or getting closer (more to the left) and changing perspective sligtly.
Could the sky have firmed up a bit with different filtration?
Nice, John. Old-style trains are wonderful subjects, and your choice of a dreary day was perfect for this.
I like the basic composition, but you might also think about a slightly looser crop. I find myself wanting to see the front wheels of the engine, for example. FWIW, I, too, find the white building at the right a little distracting. I like the perspective provided by the 35mm lens. If you have a 24mm Elmarit, it would produce a completely different feel, but might be interesting, as well. (Assuming you can reshoot at this location.)
As to the sky, filters won't do much for gray clouds. About all you could do would be to burn in that area when printing.
