As you probably know to light a barbeque is really fun if you are a child. This time Ellen got to do it, but William sits there with a match hoping Ellen will fail...
Barbara: It's actually fun that you think William dominates the picture. In this picture he does so, but when I want to photograph him and Ellen together I feel that Ellen takes the place more. But maybe because she is more used to being photographed than him?
He hasn't worked as a model. I think that when photographing children with a LF camera the images tends to be more serious (the expression). This is since they can't move during focus and taking of the picture and I am not the fastest photographer in the world
Bert: I'm very happy that you like both this image and my images at my home-page. It's comments like this that makes it so much fun photographing.
It has an odd diorama effect...as if this was in a museum showing family life scenes from the early 21st Century. I first read the background as a painted distant scene with the darker water as mountains and a few dark wispy clouds in the upper left "sky".
I like photos that fool me!
It would have been a very different photo, and not as successful, if William had not been looking right at the camera.
I didn't see the mountains until you said so. Very cool actually that the eyes can fool the brain...
And I agree with you that if William wouldn't have looked directly to the camera it would have been a different photo. Too me I as a viewer feel more that Ellen isn't even aware of the camera.
