Early spring morning photo taken in April. Photo taken just after sunrise with early morning warm light in the trees and reflection. Just a hint of mist is seen on the pond surface.
This image was taken soon after sunrise at Young's Pond in Branford, CT in April before the deciduous trees had leaves. The bare deciduous trees contrast the green conifers. The trees, hillside, and reflection are being bathed in the early morning light which is subtely being recorded on Fujichrome Velvia 50 (Velvia 50 does not have to only be used for intense color). If you look carefully, you can see a light wisp of mist coming off the pond in the midground of the image.
Thank you for the compliment. When Shutterbug Magazine highlighted my Website in August of 2000 it was commented that my site celebrates nature with quiet, powerful color images of the Western US. But this is an Eastern US photo, and you are correct in that the image on the screen is subtle and that as the print image becomes larger that it is a stunning print. Again, the larger the image the more the visual impact. The early morning warm colors are subtely seen on the trees as I mentioned and Fujichrome Velvia 50 has the ability to render these subtle colors very well. This is a very serene image that I would say possess quiet light.
If this image were shot on B&W many of the subscribers here at APUG would certainly take a close look at this image and make comment about the soft textures and tones recorded in the image.
