Drei Zinnen #1 (a)

A work in progress. Printed at grade 3.5 with a grade 0 burn for the sky. I am working on another print that shows the people better (a crop). It is difficult to dodge the people without it being obvious.

Yes, I'd imagine that dodging the people will be very difficult. A hard dodge by laying a cut-out on them after the right number of seconds may be a possibility but requires a precision cut-out and very accurate positioning. The alternative might be patient slow bleaching with a tiny brush and running water.

The little person on the left looks OK and can be left as is. It is the bigger person( is it one?) in black on the right that will a real challenge

I'll be interested in your "solution" and how it was executed

There are actually 4 people. A man, a woman and 2 children. 3 wearing black and all of them in a shadow! I have made a crop of the central tower and the people in portrait orientation rather than landscape. The people are still quite small. My enlarger column is not high enough to enlarge further even with an 80mm wide-angle. I made a dodging tool using a small piece of cardboard on some garden wire and dodged the people for 1/3 of the base exposure keeping the tool constantly moving. The result is a dodge that I know is there but I suspect most people wouldn't notice unless told. It is still wet but I'll scan tomorrow. I'll also assess the prints in daylight (I made 4 different variations) as I know better than to judge under artificial light. The people are really only there to give scale to the scene so I'm not that concerned about it. Perhaps it is quite fun that they are quite hard to see, some viewers might enjoy finding them. When dodged there is no game to find them.
